Welcome

Welcome to GTI!

GTI Friidrettsklubb was founded on 15.12.1990. We have athletes in both long and middle distance races, sprints and technical exercises. We have an inclusive training environment suitable for older youth, seniors and veterans. Every year, we enter men’s and women’s teams in the Holmenkollstafetten and Energistafetten.

Technical exercises

Discus, shot put, sledgehammer, javelin, long jump, high jump and sprint. Want to give it a try? See contact information and make an appointment. We regularly organize low-threshold events such as throwing pentathlon where beginners can get guidance and are very welcome. We also have athletes who participate in the Veteran National Championships, Nordic Veteran Championships and Veteran World Championships/Masters

Running training

Joint running workouts: Tuesday is long interval, Thursday is strength, endurance, drill and short interval. Weekly training program is posted on the closed Facebook page of GTI-Friidrett – reserved for members. https://www.facebook.com/groups/GTI.Friidrettsklubb/

Training

Train with us!

GTI Friidrettsklubb trains according to recognized training principles, where the fast sessions are typically at threshold, while the remaining sessions are very calm. We periodize the training throughout the week, month and year, and seek variety for both body and mind through different sessions.

The training sessions are designed to be effective and social for everyone, regardless of level. If you need help with a personal training program for running, we can help you, and we also conduct threshold tests in connection with this.

Our club has some of the best throwers and sprinters in the country in their age groups. They also perform very well in the Veteran World Championships. Our experienced athletes can provide good advice and guidance to new members. Our oldest active members are well over 80 years old and are a great inspiration.

We want to be a positive player in society and contribute to preventive public health work. In GTI Athletics Club, there is room for everyone.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everyone can join and is warmly welcome. If you have never exercised before or have exercised little, you will receive a customized program and follow-up to accustom your body to the training.
We have athletes at all levels.

We do not have an attendance obligation. As a member, you get access to weekly programs and can train whenever you want, wherever you want. We still encourage you to participate if you have the opportunity, as it is a great environment to train in and you will be motivated, inspired and develop friendships and a club environment.

Many make private appointments and train together several times a week. Our Facebook page and various messenger groups allow for communication among members.

Absolutely! We do not have our own elite groups and the best train together with the rest at the joint training sessions, but you can get closer follow-up from a coach if necessary and set up special programs, threshold testing, etc. Coach John Nicolaysen is a trained coach (in athletics) and physiotherapist with extensive experience.

GTI has a philosophy and a desire that unity and community are strengthening both personal performance and the club. By encouraging people to train together, everyone will motivate and inspire each other. Cheering each other on and being seen regardless of level and performance is something we strongly believe in.

Yes, we do. Every year, the Sports Committee organizes several club nights with social and professional content. We have had visits from coaches, psychologists, nutritionists etc. We also set aside time for a drink and preferably something to eat.

Each year, the Sports Committee selects a joint trip. These have traditionally gone to races abroad. The destination is chosen based on the member survey, which is conducted every two years. The Sports Committee will post information about the destination and hotel suggestions. Members book their own registration, travel and accommodation. The annual meeting has usually budgeted for support for the members who travel to this event. Travel grants are paid in accordance with regulations after the event has been completed.

No. Volunteering at our own events is essential for the club. You can participate in the events and still volunteer before, during or afterwards. E.g. start number distribution, speed holder, rigging down. On the other hand, the Sports Committee selects several events where the club covers the participation fee after completion. These are called Blue Races. This is done to support local organizers, encourage participation in local races and create sporting enjoyment and club cohesion.

No. GTI is an athletics club with various disciplines such as throwing, long distance, height, sprint, long and middle distance and ultra. In addition, we have practitioners within OCR. The largest group consists of long and middle distance runners.

No. We have neither a lower nor an upper age limit. We do not have organized children’s sports or separate groups for young people. Any young athletes participate in training together with the adults and are given equal rights to adapted programs, etc. More young people come with their parents. We have had members from about 12-90 years old.

The name originates from Gladtrimmen, which was changed to Gladtrimmen International. The abbreviation GTI became the common name for many years. In October 2015, it was approved as the official name of the club.
